Monodox (Doxycycline Monohydrate) side effects

Please see general statement regarding side effects. Side effects may include: allergic reactions, colitis, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, flu symptoms, headache, joint pain, loss of appetite, nausea, rash, swelling of your tongue, vomiting

If Monodox is used with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Monodox with the following: antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium; birth control pills; bismuth subsalicylate; blood thinners (such as warfarin); iron-containing preparations; methoxyflurane; penicillin; or seizure medications (such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, or phenytoin).

The effects of Monodox during pregnancy are unknown. Monodox can be found in your breast milk if you take it during breastfeeding. Do not take Monodox while breastfeeding. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

If you miss a dose of Monodox, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.

Do not take Monodox if you are allergic to it, any of its ingredients, or similar antibiotics (such as tetracycline). Do not take Monodox to treat viral infections, such as the common cold.
