Thalitone (Chlorthalidone)

Thalitone is a diuretic (water pill) used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Thalitone is also used in combination with other medications to treat edema (swelling) associated with heart, kidney, liver disease, or corticosteroid and estrogen therapy.

Thalitone can cause a decrease in your blood potassium levels or other electrolyte (chemicals that are important for the cells in your body to function) abnormalities, including low sodium or chloride levels. Your doctor will perform regular blood tests to check your fluids and electrolytes. Tell your doctor if you experience confusion, decreased urination, drowsiness, dry mouth, fast heart rate, low blood pressure, muscle pain or cramps, nausea, restlessness, seizures, tiredness, vomiting, or weakness. Thalitone can cause serious side effects, especially if you have kidney or liver problems. Also, you can be at a higher risk of experiencing an allergic reaction to Thalitone if you have a history of allergy or asthma. Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, allergies, or asthma before you start treatment with Thalitone. Thalitone can cause gout (severe and painful inflammation of the joints). Thalitone can also cause an increase in your blood sugar levels and lead to diabetes. Your doctor will monitor you for these conditions.
