Juvisync (Simvastatin/Sitagliptin)

Juvisync is a medicine used in addition to diet and exercise to lower blood sugar and cholesterol in adults with type 2 diabetes. Juvisync contains two medicines, sitagliptin and simvastatin. It lowers triglycerides and “bad” (low density lipoprotein [LDL]) cholesterol, and it raises the “good” (high density lipoprotein [HDL]) cholesterol. Juvisync can reduce your risk of death from heart problems, heart attack, stroke, or the need for certain blood vessel procedures.

Juvisync can cause a condition known as pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). You can experience severe pain in the stomach all the way to your back that will not go away, and it can happen with or without vomiting. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking Juvisync and contact your doctor immediately. Your risk of having these symptoms can be higher if you already have a history of pancreatitis, stones in your gallbladder, alcoholism, high blood triglyceride levels, or kidney problems. The amount of diabetes medication you need can change if you undergo any kind of stress (such as a fever), trauma (such as a car accident), infection, or surgery. Tell your doctor immediately if you are under any kind of stress. Make sure to stay on your diet and exercise program, and check your blood sugar regularly.
