Zithromax 250 mg
Zithromax (Azithromycin)

Zithromax is an antibiotic used in adults to treat infections of the urethra and cervix, skin, and infections associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (narrowing of the lungs that makes it hard to breath). Zithromax is also used to treat adults with genital ulcer disease, as well as prevent and treat Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) (a number of bacterial infections that are usually associated with HIV infections). In addition, Zithromax is used in adults and children to treat certain types of pneumonia and infections of the throat/tonsils and sinuses. It is also used to treat ear infections in children. Zithromax is available as tablets, an oral suspension, and 1-gram single dose packets.

Zithromax only works against bacteria; it does not work against viruses like the common cold. Diarrhea is a common problem caused by antibiotics, and usually ends when the antibiotic is stopped. Sometimes after starting treatment with antibiotics, people may develop watery and bloody stools (with or without stomach cramps and fever) even as late as two or more months after having taken the last dose of the antibiotic. Contact your doctor immediately if this occurs. Not taking the complete dose of Zithromax may decrease the effectiveness of the treatment and may increase the possibility that bacteria will develop resistance and will not be treatable by Zithromax or other antibiotics in the future. Zithromax may cause serious allergic reactions or serious skin reactions. Get emergency help if you or your child has hives, a skin rash, mouth sores, skin blistering or peeling, trouble swallowing, wheezing, trouble breathing, or swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue or throat. Zithromax can cause liver impairment. Tell your doctor if you experience loss of appetite, right upper abdominal discomfort, dark urine, or yellowing of your skin or whites of your eyes. Tell your doctor if you or your child feel an abnormal heartbeat, dizziness, or feel faint. This has been seen with other antibiotics similar to Zithromax. Zithromax can cause or worsen myasthenia gravis (a disease characterized by long-lasting fatigue and muscle weakness). Tell your doctor if you have this condition.
